Welcome to Portable 5!!! - Grade 5/6 FI Mme Moreau (Waterhouse)
MAY NEWSLETTER
It is hard to believe it is May already. Time flies! May is a very busy month for Portable 5. Please check the calendar regularly for upcoming events and deadlines. We have begun our review of essential math and language concepts and skills in preparation for the EQAO testing which begins after the May long weekend. The French <Combat des livres> will soon begin and our students will demonstrate their reading comprehension skills. Our
Grade 5 trip to the ROM is being planned and details will be sent out soon. Fundraising for Jump Rope for Heart is underway. Students are encouraged to participate regardless of money raised, as promoting a healthy and active lifestyle is one of the important goals of this event.
With the coming of the warmer weather, we will be heading outdoors more often. Please ensure your son or daughter is wearing appropriate clothing for the day's weather and keep in mind that it can change throughout the day (cooler to warmer, vice versa) and that a jacket is still sometimes needed.
Just a reminder that students have Physical Education on Days 1, 3, and 5, and Library on Day 2 (books are due back on Day 1). Please remember to bring or wear appropriate clothing for these activities and to bring back all library books on time.
Have a wonderful month,
Mme Moreau

HOME-SCHOOL COMMUNICATION
While the agenda will be the main communication tool between myself and parents, this website will replace paper newsletters, and it will be updated monthly (or as needed). Reminders to check this website will be in the daily agenda message. If you do not have access to the internet, I will send a paper copy home. Please indicate in the agenda if you need to receive a paper copy. The agenda should be checked daily for important reminders, homework, due dates, and other messages regarding your child's day at school. Of course, for urgent matters, please call me at the school. Another easy option is through email. I check email (at least) twice daily and will respond as promptly as possible.

SCHOOL SUPPLIES
In June, students were provided with a list of school supplies common to all junior classrooms at Leslie Frost. This list was included in the report card envelope in the hopes of helping parents to avoid purchasing unnecessary items. Of course, most basic supplies will be provided by the school, and this list is only a guideline. Other important items include:
-indoor shoes with non-marking soles (will be used for indoor gym classe s as well). Shoelaces must be tied properly to avoid accidents.
-reusable water bottles and lunch containers are highly recommended to reduce waste (especially in our portable)
-a box of kleenex
-a small bottle of hand sanitizer (for health and hygiene, as we have no sink to wash hands before eating in a portable).
The following items are not allowed (as in the code of conduct) in portable 5:
-cell phones and handheld electronic devices (iphone, ipad, etc.). Note: for safety reasons, many students carry a cell phone in their backpack. This is permitted as long as it stays turned off and tucked away in the backpack during school hours.
-toys (of any kind, including trading cards)
Please remember that the school is not responsible for any lost or stolen articles. If an item is valuable, it is best not to bring it to school.
Parents, please go over the above information with your child(ren). Together, we can ensure a positive and inspirational year for our students!
Sincerely,
Susan Moreau (Waterhouse)
