Their culminating task will involve creating a container that can keep hot chocolate hot for a period of time. Yes, it will be a contest! The grade 6s are delving into electricity and they too are having many hands-on opportunites creating parallel and series circuits. Their culminating task will involve creating an electrical trivia game board!

Historica:The students will soon be researching their Historica project.

As for parents who are concerned about their child being in a combined grade, here is an excerpt from Ministry of Education (2007) regarding combined grades:
Although classes of combined grades do require careful preparation to manage the distinct
content in different disciplines, there can be benefits for students both socially and academically.
Reviews of research that were conducted in Canada by Naylor (2000) and by Manitoba
Education and Youth (2003) show that instruction in classes of combined grades can provide
students with increased opportunities for social and emotional growth. Students have been
shown to:
do better in the area of socio-emotional development;
develop more positive peer interactions;
have greater development of social skills;
do more collaborative and independent learning;

Weekly Homework:
  • Receive word work each Monday: Due each Friday (if not before!) This will begin second week of school.
  • If not completed on time, then students will complete during recess on Monday.
  • Students will bring home work not completed during sufficient class time.
  • * Agendas should be read daily by parents to keep up-to-date communication.

Here are some great websites for students to use!
